Thursday 4th November

Hello friends of Jerry

Jerry has had a few struggles this week as he continues his struggle with food intake. The presence of mucus also sometimes makes sleeping difficult but we are hoping that this will soon be alleviated by new medication. As Jerry can currently only take liquid food in moderate amounts he does not have a lot of energy. However, this can be exacerbated if he loses sleep. Therefore, his days can vary quite a bit. Jerry has been in good spirits generally.

Yesterday was another beautiful autumnal day and he went out in the wheelchair – down the river to my house. We all really enjoyed it. On Wednesday, several of us enjoyed looking at Jerry's own paintings and drawings and he really had fun too.

Tomorrow, Friday, Jerry will visit a local hospice as a day visitor. His Macmillan nurse is arranging for him to go there next week on Monday or Tuesday for a 2-week stay in order to receive 24-hr care to make sure he is receiving appropriate treatment to deal with his difficulties. He will also be able to take advantage of some of the facilities there such as aromatherapy and art classes and be under the care of people who will be expert in his care needs. There is a resident chef and apparently the food is very good.

Jerry has very much enjoyed the presence and love and support of Ann and Amy his two nieces. They are returning to the USA this morning.

He has also got a lot of pleasure from relaxing massages from friends and family.

He has asked me to thank you for all your messages but to tell you that he is not replying to any emails at the moment.

All The Best

  1. Thanks Anne for all the updates! It was so great spending time with all of you! I'm extremely glad we were there to help ease some of the responsibilities you and your family have with Jerry's care, even only for a short time. Thank you so much. Most of all I am so glad I took the time to come and visit Jerry and hear his laugh and see his smile and reminisce together. I love him so very much! Ann
